Hymn of Invitation VT 461 Come to the Table

Communion

That night as they all gathered at the Passover table, Jesus told his disciples, “I have longed to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer.”

Then he took a loaf of bread, thanked God for it,

broke it, and gave it to them, saying,

“This bread is my body, which is given for you.

Eat this to remember me.”

Each table will partake of the bread.

He took a cup, and after giving thanks,

he shared it with them and said,

“This is my blood, which will be poured out for many. When I die, there will be a new covenant

between God and all people.”

Each table will partake of the cup.

After this Jesus warned them,

“Someone here at this table is going to betray me.”

The disciples were worried and confused.

Who would do that? (Jesus was speaking about Judas.)

Jesus and the disciples sang a hymn together,

and then they went out to the Mount of Olives.
