THE CHURCH WORSHIPS TOGETHER

Living as Light and Salt

~Gathering~

Prelude: "Brethren, We Have Met to Worship" - arr. Cindy Berry

Welcome& Announcements

Focus Statement:

Jesus taught many things to his disciples and the crowds that were there listening, about God’s kingdom and what it meant to follow him. He said that they were the salt of the earth, a metaphor that they could understand. For they knew that salt functions as a preservative, adds flavor to food, and is a cleansing agent. He also said that they were the light of the world, a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Living in light and shining Christ’s light through the darkness of the world, points people to Christ and

brings praise to God. How can we grow in learning to live as light and salt in the world, as we continue to follow Christ today?

Time of Meditation: "We Walk by Faith and Not by Sight"

                                                            - Rachel Trelstad Porter

Call to Worship:

Leader: We are called to bring a new understanding of God:

that God so loves the world.

People: We are the salt of the earth.

Leader:  We are called to bring a new hope in God:

that God gives us new life.

People:  We are the light of the world.

Leader: We are called to follow the commandments and the

                    law.

People:  The Law of God is to love God and to love one

                    another.

Leader: Come, let us be the salt of the earth, the light of the

                    world.

People: Come, let us love one another with the love of God.

All:  Let us join together in our love of God to worship
