THE CHURCH WORSHIPS TOGETHER

Beholding Jesus in Our Words

Prelude  "Oh, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing"

                                                                       - arr. Cindy Berry

Welcome & Announcements

Focus Statement:

It can be said that we all have a superpower that we take for granted everyday—the ordinary, yet extraordinary power of words. We have all felt the sting of hurtful words, but if we are honest, we have also been the bearers of harsh, condemning and complaining words as well. As hard as we try to keep up appearances, it’s our lips that reveal who we really are. It’s no wonder that James writes so famously about the tongue and warns us about unbridled speech, and Luke sets us straight on the root cause of it—the taming of the tongue is an issue of the heart. If you’ve mismanaged your heart tending and have lost control of your tongue, it’s not too late—God is in the business of heart transformation.

Call To Worship: (based on Psalm 19)

Leader: Come into this sacred space to worship God

People: whose teaching is perfect; whose directions are sure.

Leader: Come into this holy place to worship God

People:  whose standards are right; whose commandment is

                       clear;  whose judgements are true.

Leader:  Come with holy fear –

People:  to be given life, and made wise, to have your heart

stirred and your eyes opened wide.

Leader: Come — let us worship God.

All:  Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of

our hearts be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, our

                     rock and our redeemer.
